Best Sandbox in the Neighborhood!

When Uncle Scott was visiting us over Memorial Day, he and Steven started building David and Spencer a sandbox. It was supposed to be a weekend project, but as the sandbox's dimensions grew, so did the project. Last weekend we finally celebrated the completion of this masterpiece sandbox. The final product is 6' x 8,' has white painted sides, complete with a lattice cover (to keep out the neighbor's cats and other debris) and filled with almost 1.5 tons of new mortar sand. It's every boy's dream come true (and their father's).

David and Spencer LOVE playing in the dirt. We bought some new sand toys and backhoes to celebrate. David loves to dig in the dirt and make and quickly destroy sand castles. He says he is "King David" and Mommy is "Queen." (Nice) Spencer is also "King Spencer." Spencer loves picking up the sand and letting it slide through his fingers. I know he's trying to figure out how to hang on to it long enough to put it in his mouth. I have to keep a close eye on him to make sure he doesn't eat the dirt clods or suck on the shovels too much.

Since it's so horribly hot in Mesa during the summer, we have to play in our beloved sandbox between 7:00 and 8:30 AM. After that it's too hot to be outside the rest of the day. Good thing the boys are early risers--sarcasm. So, first thing after breakfast, we head out to the sandbox, play and get dirty, hose them off with the garden hose, and then head to the bathtub where they continue to play in the water. We look forward to many hours of fun in our sandbox.
